USMC WWI Chevrons?

Saw these chevrons on ebay. Were They used during WWI? They are out of my aread of expertise.

 

 

Any USMC Chevron collectors out there?

They don't look like any Marine chevrons I've ever seen, but I'm not the type that says "If I haven't seen it it doesn't exist." To me, though they look more like early ROTC chevrons. I have seen an OSU ROTC uniform that looked very similar.

They do not ,match any USMC chevrons in my references. Red stripes would only be on green background and the one with the red disc is really strange.

As long as we are on the subject, does anyone have any good references that focus on USMC rank insignia? I have the two listed below, but each has its limitations:

• United States Marine Corps Ranks And Grades, 1775-1969 (1970, USMC Historical Division)
• United States Marine Corps Grade Insignia Since 1775 (2009, Preston B Perrenot)
