ocsfollowme Posted November 22, 2014 Share #1 Posted November 22, 2014 It looks Philippine made. Was it supposed to be a CV-41 but it looks like CV-H1? Thanks in advance

USMarineCorps Posted November 23, 2014 Share #3 Posted November 23, 2014 Noce patch. I find the embroidery interesting. The little threads seem to be too loose for Phil. made pieces. I'm not saying its not Philipine made, it just doesnt look like the standard Phil. made patches. What era is this one from?
ocsfollowme Posted November 23, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted November 23, 2014 I have no clue to the era. I used to collect CV-41 patches and I thought from the bad photo that this was one. It could be, but the "4" could be very sloppy.
Patchcollector Posted November 23, 2014 Share #5 Posted November 23, 2014 Looks like a "Weapons" division piece and I agree, probably a "typo" on the "CV-41,which would be the Midway. The key to understanding this piece may lie in the foreign words at the top..Would like to know what they translate to. BTW,here's a link to a page with many Midway related patches: http://www.midwaysailor.com/midwaypatches/index.html
Bearmon Posted November 23, 2014 Share #6 Posted November 23, 2014 there are several USN patches for Special Weapons Division ( I can neither confirm nor deny) that have dragons, could be for that...
ocsfollowme Posted November 23, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted November 23, 2014 there are several USN patches for Special Weapons Division ( I can neither confirm nor deny) that have dragons, could be for that... I never thought about it this way. You really do not want to wake up a sleep dragon...because they are powerful. I originally thought that the W stood for West for a Westpac, but I am now onboard to what patchcollector noted: weapons division. Special Weapons I would believe. I bet the Japanese characters probably reads the same thing in English.
Mitch Posted November 23, 2014 Share #8 Posted November 23, 2014 I too believe it translates to the same thing. I also believe it is the weapons division on CV 41. The motto or trademark of the Navy Nuclear Weapons Assoc. is " Keepers of the Dragon" That may point to the answer. When it comes to nuclear, I think I would leave the sleeping dragon lie too !! ocsfollowme Posted January 15, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted January 15, 2017 What era do you think this is? Only the white on the dragon (front and back) glows on the patch.
ocsfollowme Posted January 15, 2017 Author Share #10 Posted January 15, 2017 I would think 1954-1966. Then 1971-1990. I would think that this would be somewhere in the 1954-1966 time period though.
Bearmon Posted January 15, 2017 Share #11 Posted January 15, 2017 The Midway was designated a CVA from the sometime in fifties until the early 70's so as a CV it wold be after then I would think.
firefighter Posted January 15, 2017 Share #12 Posted January 15, 2017 Patch looks PI made.If it is the Midway it would be sometime after 1973/74, CV designation
