The day after Thanksgiving, the Frozen Chosin Reservoir withdraw began, "Retreat Hell! We're just attacking in another direction." Attributed to Major General Oliver P. Smith, CG of the 1st Marine Division in Korea (1950), regarding his order for Marines to move southeast to the Hamhung area from the Hagaru perimeter. Thanksgiving 1950 U.S. Naval Receiving Station Pearl Harbor dispatching the recalled sailors to their newly recommissioned combat vessels in Korean waters Demolition charges destroy Hungnam port facilities and remaining U.N. supplies at the conclusion of evacuation operations, 24 December 1950.
