Combat Diver Posted November 19, 2014 Share #1 Posted November 19, 2014 Haven't posted lately due to being back in Afghanistan. Found this helmet in the retrofit yard today as I was looking for weapon parts. Got me thinking of the long road this one has taken since 1914-1918, Eastern Front? Sully Posted November 19, 2014 Share #3 Posted November 19, 2014 In the 1920's to early 1930's Afghanistan was trying to modernize their army. The bought multitudes of equipment from the Weimar Republic. I saw these helmets quite often when I was there and most were in much worse shape. Keep looking in the bazaars you will find many pieces of WW1 equipment.

dan Posted November 21, 2014 Share #6 Posted November 21, 2014 I was in Afghanistan in 2006-2007 and brought home a very beat up WW1 German helmet shell. I did not know that about the Afghan army buying equipment from the Weimar Republic. I thought the helmets may have brought there by the Russians. The helmet I found was in a B-hut and was being used as a butt can. It is cracked and was rusted and gross as it was the recipient of cigarette and cigar butts. After I got it home I did something I never do. I sand blasted and painted it flat black. At least it's not gross anymore and it's still a WW1 German helmet.
