camillus Posted November 18, 2014 Share #1 Posted November 18, 2014 Hi, curious I have noticed that on most hard scabbards I have seen there is a notch under the metal throat on each side. Does anybody know the purpose, I can't see one thanks Mike
SKIPH Posted November 18, 2014 Share #2 Posted November 18, 2014 There are metal tabs that hold the metal throat onto the plastic. The slots are cut for that purpose. Check out the MK2 scabbard you will see the tab. SKIP
BROBS Posted November 18, 2014 Share #3 Posted November 18, 2014 scabbards cut down from the longer 16" do not have these notches. -Brian
SKIPH Posted November 18, 2014 Share #4 Posted November 18, 2014 Brian- No they don't. But the original M3, M7, USN MK1 & MK2 scabbards do have the tabs in original configuration. Gary Cunningham explained that the tabs broke off when placed on cut-down scabbards, so the procedure was changed for the cut-downs. SKIP
BROBS Posted November 18, 2014 Share #5 Posted November 18, 2014 Thanks for the info, Skip. I wasn't sure why they weren't there on the cutdowns. -Brian
