Vietnam era STUFF. Smoke and Flares

You probably know this, but for those readers who don't, all of these things have hazards associated with them.

I think the short tubes might be artillery simulators. I saw an ROTC Cadet become a real life casualty when he jumped on top of one during a training exercise. He decided to take cover behind a tree just as an instructor had thrown the device there. Put a pretty decent hole in his leg.

Both the smoke grenades and the illumination rounds can cause a fire. The smoke grenades also can have a choking hazard.

The short tubes aren't simulators, they are flares. And yes you are right all of this type of stuff must be treated with respect if live. It may not kill you but it'll still hurt.

If you could de mill those smokes without ruining them you would make very good money from collectors!

I'd buy them for a start ;).

The short green tubes which look similar to smoke grenades are M49 Surface Trip Flares. They usually have a steel bracket to attach them to trees, fence posts, etc.

They have NO delay if the safety lever is released. and are filled with magnesium & have 35K candlepower. They are a fire hazard

The AN/M8HC (Hydrochloric) smoke can cause sever Nauseousness if you breathe in the smoke too close, I'm talking retching your guts up for 10 minutes and really screwed afterwards .

White Star Parachute flare is for Illumination

White Star Cluster explodes in the air like a firework

Saw a guy pic up and attempt to arm and throw one of those flares like a grenade-he got real lucky and we were in the open.

All this stuff can turn on you in

a heartbeat.

Just curious, what does a smoke canister go for these days? I found a live one in an ammo box in my fathers shed, left it where it was for now.

50 cents, mail it to me! Just kidding. um not sure, live ones are $75 on gunbroker. I'd say it depends on condition, era and color.
