Western L77, I think...

So, I don't usually buy knives, but I thought this was pretty cool. It was reportedly carried by an AAF fellow. There's a name stamped on the back, but I haven't been able to make it out as of yet. I think it's a WWII Western L77, but the shape is a bit off (there's a flare or whatever you call it to the end of the blade). Maybe it was modified a touch at the base machine shop? Thoughts appreciated!

Thanks, Doyler! I'm not up to speed on the terminology, and I was wondering if the scabbard was original to the knife. I did a bit of research and it looks like there was quite a bit of variation to these knives, and to a lesser extent, the scabbards. Nice to hear it's a good one!

You have a classic 2 line stitch scabbard/sheath which about 95% of the L77's came with. They came with either small or large blued or white rivets. Sometimes you will see them with a single stitch border but I am always leery of those because they are the easiest to forge. The hardest to find and more often seen with the Western L76, is the Western commando scabbard. It is shaped more like a USMC stiletto sheath. Nice find, just don't stab yourself with that tip sticking out of the sheath.

Regards,

CC
