MattS Posted November 1, 2014 Share #1 Posted November 1, 2014 This visor was made by Everitt W. Vero & Co. of London and is named to H.E. Nicholson. I haven't found any info on him yet, but the cap is still pretty nice.
JDK Posted November 1, 2014 Share #2 Posted November 1, 2014 Very nice visor. I've always liked ETO theater produced uniform items. JD
MattS Posted November 1, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted November 1, 2014 Thanks JD! Here's another angle on the label where you can see it was made "Expressly for the United States Forces".
Dave Posted November 1, 2014 Share #4 Posted November 1, 2014 Matt - that is VERY nice! In 28 years, I've seen a handful of English made visors. This one is particularly nice. Good find!!! Dave

MattS Posted February 22, 2015 Author Share #7 Posted February 22, 2015 I may have a possible match for this cap, I bought it in the same county as this WW2 AAF major:http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi? page=gr&GSln=Nicholson&GSfn=Harold&GSmn=E&GSbyrel=all&GSdyrel=all&GSob=n&GRid=41530969&df=all&
MattS Posted February 22, 2015 Author Share #8 Posted February 22, 2015 That link got messed up, but he was born in 1901, died in 1981, and was a major in the Air Force in WW2.

MattS Posted February 23, 2015 Author Share #10 Posted February 23, 2015 No, I had to replace the eagle as there wasn't one on there when I bought it and I don't have any English made ones.
doyler Posted February 23, 2015 Share #11 Posted February 23, 2015 Great cap. Not uncommon to find US eagles on the English caps. The one used looks great.
MattS Posted February 23, 2015 Author Share #12 Posted February 23, 2015 Great cap. Not uncommon to find US eagles on the English caps. The one used looks great. Thanks! I have a supply of loose ones and I try to match up any existing impressions with a similar eagle. Here's a sampling of the loose cap devices I have on hand. SocietyBrandHatCo Posted February 24, 2015 Share #13 Posted February 24, 2015 Matt, absolutely beautiful cap! This is the second cap I've seen by this particular maker. As with this example, the other one was also fur felt. Is it also your experience that British made US service caps in fur felt are somewhat rare? I always found that amusing, since many early war fur felt caps I have in my collection are marked as being made from "The Finest English Fur Felt". MattS Posted February 24, 2015 Author Share #14 Posted February 24, 2015 I think they are, but I'm not sure why. Maybe there weren't many British haberdashers making caps for the US, or maybe there wasn't a big demand for them? Here's a few more photos. MattS Posted February 24, 2015 Author Share #15 Posted February 24, 2015 The way the sweatband is sewn in is interesting, folded over in the front.
