What Have I got Here

This is a Ka-Bar style knife. I picked it up a yard sale a while back and I think it was chrome plated. Look at the blade and one can see two distinct materials on the blade. The top half of the knife is bright chrome as is the pommel. Leather handle.

Any additional information would be appreciated.

It is not a Ka Bar - Ka Bars were made by another company, but this is a similar WWII fighting knife made by Camillus in 1944-45.

Someone buffed the parkerization off this knife. In fact it looks wire wheeled off. The knife is a Camillus, guard marked USMC MK2 (can never remember the USMC number designation). Ka-Bar was the name of another maker, which stuck with all makers being lumped under one name. Someone did a job on that finish. SKIP

Bob, there were some, but not sure if I've ever seen a Camillus of WW2 era. I doubt USMC specifications called for a bright, & shiny 1219C2. Look at photos above, you can clearly see grind marks all over the blade. It's still a very functional knife, from what I can tell from the picture, it's just the original finish has been removed. As a field knife, I'd "cold blue", and use it. SKIP

It seems to me like Ka-Bar is the Q-Tip of the knife world. (At least by collectors like myself who have limited knowledge about knives!) What I mean is, all the knives in that category wind up being called Ka-Bars...much like most cotton swabs are called Q-Tips! ...same goes for ziploks, Kleenex... ?

Could you post a full profile pic?

As requested. Look at the blade in the OP. You can see where the chrome has been ground off along the edge but not all of the edge

Cyber Shot- Thanks for posting this latest pic. Big Difference! I clearly see the plating now. Appears to me you have a legitimate Camillus Plated USMC. Just checked out Silvey's book. He has a photo of a Camillus Plated, USMC guard marked 1219C2. So they were in fact ordered by the USMC. Silvey states they are rare. I stand corrected in light of the new picture, and Silvey's book. Nice find! SKIP
