Thanks in advance.

Greetings Doughboy,

I'd have to say it is quite close handle's dimension-wise, but it is not an original due to the fonts on the handle's markings. Please, see the "odd" differences noted in the (below) attachment top fonts' image (from the original knife posted) and where the red arrows point out inconstancies between the top image and the two original examples' fonts below (they are two examples of the same exact markings, just to show you they don't mysteriously "change" between castings). I am unaware of an original L.F & C. that has differing fonts in terms of the one and only known variant. No doubt it was made to pass as an original, frankly I'd not commit my finances on an example that I'd have to explain "why it is different" than the known example. Much like German Daggers, more folks are spending time attempting to get these reproductions closer to the originals. Here is an example (hailing from the Czech Republic), where they got the fonts pretty well covered (better than the example in question), but blew it on the thickness of the crossguard http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/193138-new-reproduction-of-l-f-c-mki-1918-from-europe/?hl=%2B1918+%2Bknife&do=findComment&comment=1500774 Thank you, for taking the time to upload this example, so fellow visitors will be able to see just how good the reproductions are getting without having to get burned by them.

Regards,

Lance

Hi,

Thanks for your replies. As I already said, I'm not familiar with these knives and the Handle is from a friend of mine but the example here http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/193138-new-reproduction-of-l-f-c-mki-1918-from-europe/?hl=%2B1918+%2Bknife&do=findComment&comment=1500774

is absolutely not comparable with the one that I posted.Sorry, but what I can see is,the whole handle is crap - beginning with the shape, the thickness of the crossguard and the knuckles. The pretty well made fonts are indeed pretty bad - it looks like crabbed and rough in the depth.

Depends on the price for me! I'd buy it for $20 or so, just for a display piece for a mannequin! No worries if it falls & get bashed up! I'm not very well versed on these, but I know they can be dangerous for a collector with no experience on them. I purchased one from Lance a while back & he educated me on them. That is the only one I own, and if I buy another, it will be from Lance!!

Greetings Doughboy,

Agreed, the Czech example's "whole handle is crap," but my point really was its handle's trademark markings were closer to an original knife's than your friend's posted example. And by comparing the two reproductions, you may view how the repros are moving towards creating a more convincing product. Soon enough, we will view an reproduction's example which combines the two positive traits of the discussed examples and then visual confirmations alone will be extremely challenging.

Regards,

Lance

Patchcollector

The comparison shot that Lance posted tells it all.I only hope that the "fellow visitors" don't include the fakers as they will regroup and start using a finer engraving tool
