Garth Thompson Posted October 26, 2014 Share #1 Posted October 26, 2014 Any help appreciated dating this US Army officer's belt buckle. I was told it was Indian Wars but have no confirmation on that. Garth
John Conway Posted October 26, 2014 Share #2 Posted October 26, 2014 This configuration of the 1855 pattern buckle is pretty hard to accurately date without any maker marks Gar. It is my understanding this buckle is still in use with Army officer's dress uniforms when the occasion requires a belt. One down side on this one is there doesn't seem to have ever been any silver finish on the wreath so I'm guessing this is probably 1938 or later vintage. The little details tend to be simplified or even missing as they continued to produce these. If anyone knows more or can correct me please chime in! I ain't sensitive when it comes to the truth!
