Ray175INF Posted October 25, 2014 Share #1 Posted October 25, 2014 I can't find any date or manufactures name anywhere, the only marking it has is a small S or 5 below the threaded neck. Any ideas gentlemen?? Ray

WWII_GI Posted October 25, 2014 Share #10 Posted October 25, 2014 I have one just like this, but mine has a really light stamp on the bottom and it's dated 1944 or 1945. I'll check the maker and date for sure later.
Ray175INF Posted October 25, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted October 25, 2014 Thanks guys!! I was suspecting a japanese make....it only cost me $6 so not to worried if thats what it turns out to be. The japanese made ones are of a lesser aluminum grade this seems to have the same heavier gauge aluminum like its marked U.S. counterparts, not only that the Japanese mades one ive seen have vertical welded seams this as you guys can see is of the horizontal welded seam. The only other one i have that isnt marked is an enamel canteen and i believe they were stamped, that enamel also has the horizontal welded seam. 'Flage Guy Posted October 29, 2014 Share #13 Posted October 29, 2014 Interesting Canteen you got there! All the girth-seamed ones I've seen before have been made of the softer-grade aluminum and were maker-stamped. The one below has the same upside-down "2" on the neck ring that yours has (don't have a close-up)...

Cap Camouflage Pattern I Posted November 9, 2014 Share #15 Posted November 9, 2014 I have an unmarked enamel canteen.
Reaper Posted January 6, 2016 Share #16 Posted January 6, 2016 I have what appeared to be an unmarked black enamel canteen. Purely out of curiosity one day I took a flashlight and shined it across the bottom at an angle, revealing "F.E. Co. 1942". Have not been able to get this to work with other seemingly unmarked ones. Jake-n-Texas Posted January 9, 2016 Share #17 Posted January 9, 2016 I got one just like it today at the flea market and under cork in the cap it says US 1945 but the canteen has no markings.
Rhscott Posted October 4, 2019 Share #18 Posted October 4, 2019 Keeping this thread alive, I too have one of these as of today. Completely unmarked except for the 5 on the neck. Came with a nice aluminum 1945 EA roll rim cup.
phantomfixer Posted October 4, 2019 Share #19 Posted October 4, 2019 pop the cork and see if there is a date on the cap....not definitive ....but if the cap looks original to the canteen...it might help
