Here are a few new acquisitions. Great Maine Reserve SG patch from Bill. Check out how big it is. I've been looking for the no border 17th ABN for quite awhile.

My reference book for State Guard insignia is packed away from a recent move, so I'm not sure of exact dates. Does anyone have any idea?

The Maine State Guard patch is WWII era. One of two types worn by the Maine State Guard Reserve between 1942 and 1946. This is by far the more desirable of the two.

There's a great write-up on the Maine State Guard in World War II in the Maine Adjutant General's Report, 1945-46. I wish there was a digital copy available, but I've never found one. I know the Maine State Archives has a copy.

So, back in the day, was the Maine Reserve State Guard an Army Reserve, State Guard or Maine National Guard formation?

Thanks,

Wiley

Its part of the State Guard at the behest of the Governor.

Army Reserve is Federal and National Guard is under State control until federalized.

State Guard had an interesting an varied role during WWII right down to county level and had many official and unofficial insignia , patches quite a unique and often overlooked history.
