Bill_Carman Posted October 18, 2014 Share #1 Posted October 18, 2014 Tis is another very nice medal in the Campaign collection, the short lived West Indies Campaign Medal. The medal was authorized in 1908 for Navy and Marine Corps personnel. This medal is tied to the Sampson Medal in that it was issued to veterans of the West Indies Campaign that had received the Sampson Medal. In 1910 the medal ceased being procured, and it was replaced with the Spanish Campaign Medal. The two medals are identical except for the inscription on the obverse of the medal. Originally the West Indies Medal had a ribbon of yellow with two wide red stripes. This example has been re-ribboned, (I can live with that). The number is 281, and it was awarded to Paymaster Theodore J Arms of the USS Peoria.

Adam R Posted October 23, 2014 Share #7 Posted October 23, 2014 My West Indies Campaign is numbered 3875, can this number be traced? Jerry My records are incomplete and primarily cover medals issued to officers. Unfortunately I don't have a record on WI # 3875 so it was probably issued to an enlisted man. gap Posted July 19, 2022 Share #9 Posted July 19, 2022 Any info on this recipient? Numbered 3596. Also, is there any way to re-ribbon the medal? Would I keep the existing ribbon or get a replacement? It looks pretty short and is rather beat up. Thanks!
m1903 Posted July 19, 2022 Share #10 Posted July 19, 2022 Just my opinion, but I would leave the ribbon as is
