In 1942 the J.C.Penney & Company issued a comic-book-like magazine in colour of the United States Army, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Marine Corps, and U.S. Navy. They produved several different publications, this is the only one I could find, quite fragile as the paper is poor quality and has to be handled carefully, needless to say.
