USCapturephotos Posted October 15, 2014 Share #1 Posted October 15, 2014 A friend brought this to me recently at my local flea market and was I really happy. Appears that the GI threw this in his duffle and brought it home and never washed it. I showed it to 3 different Vietnam vets and all said "that still has mud from Vietnam on it". I suspected what the FTA embroidered on the back stood for and one of the vets said "F$#@K The Army" and laughed confirming my suspicions. None knew the #13 novelty patch but I assume it is for "lucky 13" or "unlucky 13". Enjoy. Paul

ReverendJake Posted October 15, 2014 Share #8 Posted October 15, 2014 For me, this is what military collecting is about. As great as it must be to own a famous general's class A's or rare ID'd valor medals, this hat shows the face of the war. It is such a tangible connection to the past. One of the reasons why I love Vietnam era modified and theater made items so much is because they always seem to possess such strong character. Another reason is the attitude. This piece has so many emotions and memories attached to it. I imagine you must be quite honored to have such a powerful piece in your collection, I would be. Truly fantastic find. USCapturephotos Posted October 15, 2014 Author Share #9 Posted October 15, 2014 Hi Reverend. Thanks for your post. You said so effectively what I think about this piece. I love it. I teach high school US history and will be honored to add this to the display I do each year for my students. Paul

USCapturephotos Posted February 28, 2015 Author Share #19 Posted February 28, 2015 Yeah. The Vietnam vets I have shown the hat to have all said that about this vet. They all laughed about it too. Paul
