OldMarineVet Posted October 14, 2014 Share #1 Posted October 14, 2014 The Greek OSS terrorized the Nazi's who had occupied Greece and Yugoslavia from 1944 to 1946. Does anybody know which knife was issued to those Greek OSS soldiers? Was it similar to the v.42 daggers used by the FSSF? I'd like to look for one. doyler Posted October 14, 2014 Share #2 Posted October 14, 2014 I have heard some of the knuckle type knives made from the trapdoor Springfield rifles with black hose handles were often sourced out by the OSS TO OTHER OPERATIONAL GROUPS.
OldMarineVet Posted October 15, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted October 15, 2014 I have heard some of the knuckle type knives made from the trapdoor Springfield rifles with black hose handles were often sourced out by the OSS TO OTHER OPERATIONAL GROUPS. Thank you for that information. I'll keep that in mind while I search. The reason I'm thinking the Greek OSS soldiers carried a knife is the memorial statue (link below) shows a scabbard on the right side of the soldier similar to a Fairbairn/Sykes and/or FSSF v42. It's my understanding the sculptor went to great lengths to ensure this statue was historically correct. doyler Posted October 15, 2014 Share #4 Posted October 15, 2014 Very possible they may have been issued a FS Commando knife or the OSS stiletto. Maybe an M3 trench knife?
OldMarineVet Posted October 17, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted October 17, 2014 Very possible they may have been issued a FS Commando knife or the OSS stiletto. Maybe an M3 trench knife? Thank you. At this point I'm guessing it was this OSS stiletto from CIA museum. Not sure if this specific dagger was used by Greek OSS in timeframe above. I'll keep digging. FYI, it's starting to look like the M3 Trench Knife. Thanks for the tip.
