mattsmilitary Posted October 3, 2014 Share #1 Posted October 3, 2014 Bought this survival knife and the lock doesnt work. The knife stays closed but if you tap the button a bit it opens right up. Looks like the lock doesnt slide under the opening button. Also the button you push to open it, seems to move side to side. You can barely push the button and it opens. Here is a pic Is there anything I can do to fix this? Matt
bayonetman Posted October 3, 2014 Share #2 Posted October 3, 2014 Just as a guess, is this a Logan/Smyth knife out of Venice FL? They had problems with quality control and their knives do not have a good reputation. I was told years ago by an ex-employee that a fairly high number did not meet government standards and were rejected. He said that the rejects were sometimes taken home by employees and that many of them were sold at flea markets and the like. Again as a guess, the lock bar does slide under the release button, but the release occurs before the button goes down far enough to hit the lock bar since you say it opens with very little pressure on the button. Probably a good pocket knife repairman (and I am definitely NOT) could take it apart and adjust the catch point.
Frank Trzaska Posted October 3, 2014 Share #3 Posted October 3, 2014 It is a poor design to begin with. Camillus employees told me for every two that worked one was rejected and non functional. A very finicky knife even for the experienced assembler. Good luck with it. All the best Frank Trzaska
Misfit 45 Posted October 4, 2014 Share #4 Posted October 4, 2014 The little dot in the middle of the push button is consistent with the Logan/Smyth, but the safety lever looks more like a Camillus. The safety lever on the Logan/smyth is a simple bent piece of metal (at least it is on mine). Let us know what it is, please. Marv
