Manchu Warrior Posted September 30, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 30, 2014 I was rooting around and came across a couple of interesting paper items. The first one is a postcard of a view of Front Royal, Virginia that was mailed in 1909. What is interesting is that there is a insert that was printed in the corner from a new daily newspaper and it says across the top Mosby's Reunion and the date. Because of the location I always assumed that it was a reunion for Colonel John Singleton Mosby and the 43rd Virginia Cavalry CSA. Although his view of the world had changed drastically as he aged Mosby was also still alive and well in 1909. I found the postcard in a pile of others in a antique store a few years ago and I paid 50 cents for it. The other piece is a Georgia drivers license that was issued to a WWI veteran in 1949. What is interesting is that according to the information on the license he enlisted in the US Navy on Oct. 17, 1915 in Savannah and was discharged Jan. 20, 1920 in San Francisco and he was born May 9, 1901. That means that he enlisted when he was just 14 years old and was discharged shortly before his 19th birthday.
