WWII Group to a Navy Poet ... GUADALCANAL

I recently acquired this group and found some interesting things out about the man himself. He was a recognized Poet and part time comedian! During WWII in 1943 he published a book of his poems in in 1987 published another. I found a VERY cool Youtube video of him talking about his WWII experiences and reading his poetry.

 

I will let JD tell you in his own words about his service. If you watch the videos you will get an idea of how cool this guy was :

I also tracked down copies of his poetry books. The 1987 book had a nice photo and summary of his service. You can see the ribbons on his uniform, match the ribbons I have.

Just watched all three of the yoututbes. 8th grade education, an amazing self-taught man. I enjoyed his poem about life being like a game of poker. And the last 90 seconds of his comedy routine had some great one-liners. For example, with his wife's cooking they say prayers after eating. Congrats on being the caretaker of a group to a fine man that you know a lot more about than a collector normally does..
