I just came across this while going through some boxes and thought I'd post a few pics. I purchased this about 10 years ago from a gentleman whose father served in Europe during WWII.

As you can see, it's a fairly simple map. I haven't been able to find another one. Does anyone have any info?

USCapturephotos

Yeah. These were printed right after the war ended and either sold or given to the throngs of US GI tourists coming to see the Berghof, Eagle's Nest etc. They are not that uncommon. I have one that the GI took some notes on and have seen 4 or 5 others through the years. Still a neat piece though.

Most of that has been demolished... except for property that predated the Nazis seizing the land. There was a sad story of a land owner who had a sizable property there. The Nazi's offered to buy it three times and he refused each time. Finally they carted him off on trumped up charges. He did not survive captivity. As I recall the state returned the land and the buildings after the war to his surviving family.

The SS-Police house was the Gasthaus Turken. I used to stay there as a regular and the (then) owner was a Frau Scharfenberg. She told me that her father was the owner and one night the Gestapo arrived and told him that they were appropriating it. He refused and ended up in Dachau. The hotel became Gestapo HQ for the Obersalzburg. After the war, her family applied to the government to have the property returned, and it eventually was. She ran the hotel for decades and was a nice, friendly, and gracious hostess. There were tunnels under the hotel that you could go through (the whole hillside was honeycombed with them). Great history and a nice place to stay if you ever visit there.

That was it.

If the "hotel" you are referring to was the General Walker, I understand the US turned it back over to the Germans recently, and it has also been demolished.

I was lucky to take the tunnel tour around 1983. There wasn't much down there, but some of the twists and turns had a machine gun nest built into them. Most of the side tunnels were marked "do not enter" and a lot of the equipment down there looked collapsed.

The Walker was the Platterhof on this map. The Turken was/is the building labeled SS-Police. The Walker was an AFRC hotel and has been turned over to German ownership along with all the other US-appropriated properties in Berchtesgaden.

I visited the site a few years ago and what a beautiful view. Below are a few shots I took along with some historic photos showing the same places.
