Hi all,

I got this great looking patch along with a bunch of other thai made patches.

It looks like this is a period piece, made in the early 70's in Thailand ( please correct me if i'm wrong ).

Does anyone have an idea who this patch was made for. A motor pool team of the 46th SFC ?

thanks!

Frederik

I also have a 46th SF Motor Pool piece and from the one photo you supplied, yours appears to be OK IMO.If possible, when posting patches for ID,please provide a front and rear view as it is very helpful in determining whether the pieces are authentic or not.

I believe that my Motor pool piece has a different looking back.I'll have to get mine out and confirm this.I also have the patch with the "tinsel" detailing. This looks more like mine.

Thank you for posting backside scans of both of these.

They are both real. Both made in Thailand during the years 1967-1972 when the unit was stationed there, unless someone traveled back to Thailand and had these made when the cadre was stationed in Okinawa from 1972-1974.

A characteristic of all the authentic 46th SF Company DI shield patches that I've seen will be the blue ink mark on the back within one of the white strips. I've never seen a real one without it (although that's not to say they aren't out there, I just hadn't seen one), and I've also never been able to make out exactly what the mark is or what the letters (initials?) are.

What do they go for ? I'll leave that question to those who know much more about the marketplace than I know.

And I just noticed your other question at the top regarding who the 46th Motor Pool patch was made for. Yes, you're correct, they were made for those serving in 46th Special Forces Company Motor Pool.

Also a comment to add concerning your question of value: of the 46th SF Co. insignia (qualifying my comment with "in my experience") these two are the most common to find. But when I use the word "common" there's hardly anything common when it comes to trying to track down real SF insignia.

Can anyone tell me how much these go for nowadays? I'll have to let these go...

I think that I paid around 50 each for my examples a few years back and I was glad to get them.

I had seen these patches for sale, but questioned their authenticity.

My father was Motor Pool OIC1971 - 73, and I'd like to get an authentic one to include in a display I'm putting together for him.

Can you describe, or better still post pics, that will assist me in getting an authentic patch.

Thanks much!
