Owen Posted September 16, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 16, 2014 I'm looking for a photo taken during Butch O'Hare's epic defense of LEX in FEB 42. Taken from a screening ship it shows three Betty's splashing simultaneously. LEX is pictured bow on. Seems like this was in LIFE long ago, but I can't find it in the Google Life Image Archive now. fstop61 Posted September 17, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 17, 2014 Post really needs to be moved to an appropriate discussion topic/ forum.
Owen Posted September 17, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted September 17, 2014 Thanks Fstop, that is one of a series of four shot from the flight deck of LEX. I've got that one, need the one(s) from screening ships. I thought the photo section would be the place to post about a photo...........Owen
fstop61 Posted September 17, 2014 Share #5 Posted September 17, 2014 Glad to have helped-this section is really for members having issues posting photos-your question probably would garner more attention in Military Discussions section. O'Hare was an awesome pilot-funny his greatest success was the shooting down of the three Betty's and ultimately a Betty caused his demise. Good luck with your search. Owen Posted September 27, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted September 27, 2014 That's the one I've been looking for! Thanks so much! Obviously my memory of the angle of LEX was wrong, but the rest is spot on. I knew someone here would have the answer. Gratefully, Owen
Owen Posted September 27, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted September 27, 2014 Here's the print I just hung. Wish I'd been more patient and incorporated the LIFE piece into the display. Owen
