VMI88 Posted September 15, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 15, 2014 Several months ago I picked up a named WWI-era blue jumper. The seller told me he had more items from the same estate and I was finally able to get the rest of them today. Notice that the blue jumper is missing from the photo because I haven't been able to find it yet! However, I think the flat hat and dixie cup cap are the best items - I'll add a photo of the blue jumper when I can. The name "H.P. Sommers" is stamped in each item. Does anyone have access to a database that might shed some light on the details of his service? The USS Illinois was part of President Roosevelt's "Great White Fleet" from 1907-1909. I'd like to think these uniforms circled the globe on that voyage but they could have just as easily been worn when the Illinois was a training ship from 1912 - 1921. The ship was then transferred to the New York Naval Militia until it was renamed in 1941 and finally scrapped in 1956.

Garandomatic Posted September 15, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 15, 2014 Very cool. I would like to dial my navy collection back an era or two one day.
