Fixbayonets! Posted September 14, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 14, 2014 I recently picked up this WWI U.S. Army Officers dress blue visor cap at a local antique shop. It features what I think to be a very nice direct embroidered bullion insignia. Here are a few photos, thanks for checking it out. Rob

Wake1941 Posted September 14, 2014 Share #6 Posted September 14, 2014 This would actually pre date ww1, a beautiful cap I love these ones with the bullion insignia
Fixbayonets! Posted September 14, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted September 14, 2014 Oh it's pre WWI? Could you give me a little more info on this cap? I am not a big dress uniform guy, thanks! Rob
Wake1941 Posted September 15, 2014 Share #8 Posted September 15, 2014 Not a huge expert but I would think it would date prior to 1910, these caps are quite hard to find
KurtA Posted September 15, 2014 Share #9 Posted September 15, 2014 1912. The earlier version didn't have as wide a "saucer" on top. Also, this one looks like it has a rim around the button (which is 1912 - prior to that there was no rim.)
GIl Sanow Posted September 15, 2014 Share #10 Posted September 15, 2014 These were adopted as part of the 1902 regs -- this is the officers' dress (not FULL dress) cap worn with the dress coat --the one with the black mohair tripmed collar and front, and bullion shoulder straps. I agree this is somewhat later, but these went obsolete in 1912 when the fukk dress cap was authorized for both uniforms. Nice example! G

Pointedcuffs Posted September 16, 2014 Share #13 Posted September 16, 2014 Wow, what a beauty! Surgeons, Dentists, Vets and Chaplains were the only ones who wore these from 1912 to 1916.
