I cant tell if its just my eyes playing tricks or does the middle B25 look as though the front glass/canopy is busted out?!

When I saved the photo I forgot to put a caption with it so I dont know where it was or date....

Judging by the land scape it looks to be stateside....thats why I wonder if that glass is really busted!

What do you think??!

It sure does. Look at it upclose and the canopy is different. I actually looks like there is someone trying to clean the windshield for the pilots.

"There's a THING... on the wing!"

Could've been from a bird strike...those impacts have the potential to make quite a mess and do a lot of damage.

Nice Twilight Zone reference, too!

I blew it up as much as I could before it pixelated, it is damaged but, I don't think anyone is out there doing windows, i think that may be some of the damage folded back.

Old post here - and may not be of any interest but ran across this photo again on Fold3, where the following info had been added recently:

23 February 1945: On a mission to hit the north railroad bridge at Campo, Italy, B-25J serial 43-27680 "Stuff" of the 445th Bomb Sq, 321st BG received a direct hit in the nose from flak; the bombardier, 2LT Lonnie B. Harvel, Jr was killed instantly. He was the squadron's only casualty that day.

now we know the story - rest in peace sir

It also looks like there's sheet metal missing below the Plexiglas. Compare the two noses. Interesting pic, thanks for sharing.

I can (but would rather not) imagine what the inside of the nose of that plane must have looked like after it landed.

Yea when I first saw the image I didnt even notice the damage but second time around I did....and then the 3rd time I found out who the brave man was that lost his life. I am sure it wasnt pleasant. Brenner Pass was a tough place to be.

Great follow up, your research brought this good airplane photo to light as an historical event and allowed those who read your post to remember 2LT Lonnie B. Harvel, Jr.

I've been in the nose of a B-25 and there's not much room up there for one person (even without the insulated flightsuit, helmet, goggles, oxygen mask, etc.) and I had a morbid thought. Is that Lt Harvel's body blown partially out of the nose and stuck in the slipstream? How horrible.

I was thinking the very same thought. It looks like it could possibly be a man. I hope we are wrong and that is just debris.

Yikes! In any event - rest in peace Lt. Harvel. Incredible that they stayed on mission but I'd guess you're best protected that way. What would you say are the 4 verticle lines below the middle ship, a feature on the ground, a flaw on the photo or bombs? In movies and photos the bombs seem to drop quite a distance in a horizontal position but I assume they nose down at some point. ...and It's always good seeing Captain Kirk when he was young and didn't have it all together like he did later in (fake) life.

I think you're seeing the plexi and window frame bent back....the dark object slumped over the bombsight is likely the Lt. Sad day. Likely why this picture was taken because of the damage to the center plane. We forget a lot of times planes "made it back" , only to have members of the crew dead or dying, or ever worse alive and trapped in the ball turret. The opening scene of 12 O'clock High comes to mind.

I tried the photo editing software I have and it does look like the framework of the nose Plexi bent backwards and possibly some items protruding out and blurred by the wind in the photo.

I went back and was able to clean it up a little. The white marks and those below on the side appear to be bomb missions.

I found this 'after' photo of the aircraft with a new nose and new artwork that "covered the bomb mission symbols".
