B24AT6 Posted September 1, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 1, 2014 I posted one of my "Diary" helmets in another thread, but decided to start a thread for members to post their examples of "Diary" helmets from WWII. I'll start with my two diary helmets, an example from the ETO and another from the PTO Here is my previously posted ETO example that is ID'd to a GI from Florida:
B24AT6 Posted September 1, 2014 Author Share #2 Posted September 1, 2014 My PTO, helmet which has no ID, but I believe it belonged to a SeaBee based off of the locations on the helmet:

fight Posted October 13, 2021 Share #9 Posted October 13, 2021 I've never heard them referred to as Diary Helmets but I think I'll use that from now on 😁. When I think of the cliche "if only the helmet could talk" I think this is the closest they'll ever come. Helmets like these are one of my favorites. I've seen that helmet posted before and it's definitely one that you don't forget about! Here's mine from a North Africa vet. I've got a bit of info on the vet and plan on reaching out to the family soon to see if there's more to his story. - Alec
B24AT6 Posted October 13, 2021 Author Share #10 Posted October 13, 2021 Alec, I agree, this is as close as a helmet can come to actually saying “this is where I’ve been and what I’ve done.” Thanks for sharing your example, it’s a very nice one! It was posted by Goodwill if I remember correctly. I really wanted to bid on it but had some other priorities financially at the time. This M1 helmet is incredible, by far one of the coolest ones ive seen in awhile. I think the vet was from Illinois if I remember correctly. Really glad you were able to find some of the info of the veteran. Enjoy the helmet, its a top shelf piece!
