subsystem4 Posted September 1, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 1, 2014 I am not a USAAF collector or even a US Army collector, a lot of you know i'm a navy guy, but this jacket is staying with me. It belonged to my fiancé's cousin's father. He was part of the 62nd bomb squadron, 39th bomb group, 314th bomb wing, based on Guam. They were a B29 outfit bombing Japan, especially Tokyo, in 1945. I think the triangle patch on the right sleeve indicates he was a mechanic of some sort. I got his name and unit info from my soon-to-be-wife's cousin. His mother had been saving the jacket and cap since his father passed away in 1999. I am fairly sure he was ground crew from what I was told by family. Sorry for the pic quality. It was taken with my phone. -Jay

subsystem4 Posted September 1, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted September 1, 2014 Can I get a shot of the collar device? I didn't take a photo of the collar brass but one is a US and the other is a winged propeller. -Jay
MattS Posted September 1, 2014 Share #5 Posted September 1, 2014 Engineering Specialist patch, one of 5 USAAF specialist patches (armament, communications, weather, and photography are the others) worn on the right cuff. Nice uniform!
McDermut99 Posted September 2, 2014 Share #6 Posted September 2, 2014 Please be sure to take the uniform off of that wire hangar. A strong, wide hangar will be excellent. And put some acid-free tissue in the hat so it can keep it's form.
