Nate5 Posted August 31, 2014 Share #1 Posted August 31, 2014 Trying to identify this Military Uniform I picked up at a thrift store. It appears to be an Army uniform from WWI, but I'm not sure. Can anyone identify it and the markings?
Navybean Posted August 31, 2014 Share #2 Posted August 31, 2014 looks like a summer weight US Army WW1 tunic with transport collar disks. Patch is 3rd Army (the A on the left arm)/. Neat piece. Not sure what the color is for behind the transport disk though? Looks like he was a sergeant. The gold marks on the lower sleeve are for time over seas during the first World War. MAW Posted August 31, 2014 Share #3 Posted August 31, 2014 The felt behind the collar disks was done in occupation duty. There are general orders that specify the details. Usually you see red felt behind most disks....I'm suspect the purple-ish color is specific to MTC units. Nice pick-up.
doyler Posted August 31, 2014 Share #4 Posted August 31, 2014 Appears to be a tailor made uniform by the looks of the wool. 3rd Army patch looks occupation made as well.Im thinking german made. Nice little group.
KurtA Posted August 31, 2014 Share #5 Posted August 31, 2014 He's a Company Quartermaster Sgt (one flat bar under the chevrons). The Army of Occupation patch is German-made.

kcmo Posted August 31, 2014 Share #7 Posted August 31, 2014 Agree it is German made third army patch. Purple was the transportation branch color in wwi. Is it marked or named?

If you have found the General Orders for the Army of Occupation collar disk backings, can you provide them? Each branch used their branch colors as backings, i.e. blue for infantry, red for artillery and etc. Some had two-color branch colors. I have coat with black and red backings for ordnance.
