seanmc1114 Posted August 23, 2014 Share #1 Posted August 23, 2014 This is a picture of boxer Sugar Ray Robinson a/k/a Walker Smith, Jr. who served in the Army from February 1943 to June 1944 where he performed exhibition boxing matches for the troops. I have seen officer khaki uniforms and pre-war enlisted khaki uniforms worn in areas like the Philippines and Hawaii, but I don't think I have ever seen this style of enlisted dress uniform in a khaki version. Sabrejet Posted August 23, 2014 Share #3 Posted August 23, 2014 Very unusual to see an EMs four pocket in summer khaki! Given the attitudes of the time and the fact that it was still a segregated army, would an enlisted man of colour really be able to get away with something as obviously non-regulation as that? seanmc1114 Posted August 23, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted August 23, 2014 I guess this is a different shot of the same uniform with a service cap that appears to be a slightly different shade of khaki.
Sabrejet Posted August 23, 2014 Share #5 Posted August 23, 2014 Looks like a regular EMs summer khaki visor.
