smwinter207 Posted August 22, 2014 Share #1 Posted August 22, 2014 This is a crude set of marksman badges. Is there a date or story on this type of close pin? ThanksS
Brig Posted August 22, 2014 Share #2 Posted August 22, 2014 Lead badge, sometimes called 'pot metal'. It was a late war economy measure when brass and other metals were placed on the restricted metals list. Steve B. Posted August 22, 2014 Share #3 Posted August 22, 2014 I agree with Brig 100% and would like to add that these were typically not produced by any manufacturers having government contracts to supply military insignia. They were produced all over the country, and possibly all over the globe, by whoever had the capability to make them. They are generally not even PX-purchased items, but could be found for sale in off-post tailor shops, laundries, and uniform/insignia shops.
