DeuceGI Posted August 23, 2014 Share #4 Posted August 23, 2014 All my really late WWII gear that has similar nomenclature marking formatting and is otherwise clearly dated, has "AC" in the contract no. as opposed to "AF" except my 1944 dated B-15 and 1945 dated Q1 heated shoe inserts which have "AF". I always guessed "Air Corp" vs. "Air Force", but that's just speculation. Don't know if that helps, but maybe a spec guru will weigh in. DeuceGI Posted August 25, 2014 Share #6 Posted August 25, 2014 FWIW I looked in the Bianchi Flight Gear book and The Leather Specialty Co. did have a wartime contract --1942-- so its still open to being a later wartime contract. Maybe. Tim

Survival Posted November 12, 2014 Share #8 Posted November 12, 2014 I would try a PM to Dustin on this. He is pretty dialed in on the contract numbers
Bebel Posted November 12, 2014 Share #9 Posted November 12, 2014 This ww2 spécification was used until 1950. But I cannot tell anything about the contract number. Sorry. Franck
dustin Posted November 13, 2014 Share #10 Posted November 13, 2014 Some basic rules: AF contracts barely, if it did, reached the 10,000 (5 digits) sequence for 33-038 prefixes and I have not seen any evidence it did reach 10,000 if it did it was close to VJ-Day. This means any 5 digit 33-038 contract is post war. Also the use of US PROPERTY is another indicator but not definitive. When used on a service specific item most all indicators say yes but with a joint A/N item they used US GOVT PROPERTY or US PROPERTY during WWII. This case is probably around 1947-48. The use of AC and AF in contracts or purchase orders have no real bearing in dating things. Purchase orders give use the best dating system as they use fiscal years in the numerical sequence.
