USdog Posted July 30, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 30, 2014 Recently got this pair. Hasn't arrived yet, but can't wait! My first wwi usmc tags. Anyways, he enlisted in 1917 and he was a mechanic in Squadron B, First Marine Aviation Force in wwi and went to combat overseas with his unit. He also made Sergeant in less than 10 months. Did that happen often?!? What do you think? I don't see much WWI USMC Aviation stuff, is it rare?

etienne Posted August 23, 2014 Share #8 Posted August 23, 2014 Well, I don't know how I managed to miss this thread Very nice dogtags, and related to the early years of Marine Aviation. I don't know much about Marine Aviation but there's books about this specific topic, might deserve a research, isn't it ? E

servcon Posted August 28, 2014 Share #10 Posted August 28, 2014 Here's another set of 1917 dogtags, with a 1917-1919 Good Conduct showing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th enlistments. My great uncle who wound up a Quartermaster Sgt. at HQMC. His stripe was six up and six down, with a wheel in the center. Hios blues were donated to Marine Corps Museum at Quantico.
