teufelhunde.ret Posted July 30, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 30, 2014 James passed away today, he served in the Corps during and in the Korean Theater as a Staff Sergeant. He went on to have a prolific Hollywood career, most notably as the Japanese Admiral Nagumo in the movie Midway. Rest in peace Staff Sergeant.... patches Posted August 1, 2014 Share #5 Posted August 1, 2014 You know this is incredibly timely, I just ordered the 1961 movie version of the musical The Flower Drum song which James Shigeta stared in, it shipped today, and when I watch it I'll be remembering him, and saddened knowing that he's now gone. I always found that interesting about him in the USMC, it made me wonder when the first Japanese Americans first entered the Marines after the close of WWII, and just how well they were excepted. Lets face it the Marines had just fought a vicious bloody war against the Japanese, and feeling still ran very deep, hell my uncle a Marine Raider and later 4th Marines on Guam didn't have much to love for them, and this was in the 80s,90s, 2000s and I don't think he was alone among WWII Pacific Combat Vets.
