There were a couple of words that I couldn't make out due to fuzziness, but I think this gives you the jist. Hope that helps.

" from herself often"..I think that's "Hersel"...maybe meant to be "Herschel", since it says "him" afterwards...

Agreed. It looks like it says "Hersel" (probably meaning Hershel). Thanks for picking up on that Mark - I was typing it out w fat thumbs and the damn autocorrect grabbed it.

For some reason, my Wife can read this "style" of handwritting easily. I have her translate all of my letters.
