Robswashashore Posted July 21, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 21, 2014 More New England model displays: The USS Thresher (SSN 593) was built at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine and homeported at Groton, CT. She was lost with all hands in April 1963 off Cape Cod while undergoing sea trials. This is a 1/700 resin model. The US Navy Motor Torpedo Boat Training Center was located in Melville, RI during WWII, and one of its most famous graduates was Lt (JG) John F. Kennedy. This is a 1/72 model of an Elco 80 footer, PT 141, of the MTB Training Squadron 4 out of Melville.

29navy Posted August 10, 2014 Share #6 Posted August 10, 2014 The Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron Training Center (MTBSTC) was in Melville, RI, but the picture posed of JFK's class was actually taken at the ELCO plant in Bayonne, NJ. They went down there for a familiarization trip to see how the boats were built.
