"War & Peace 2014" photo report....very pic heavy!"

Well...another "War & Peace" show has just concluded! This was the second show at its new home at the former Folkestone racecourse, on England's channel coast. This location is very close to the EuroTunnel rail link making it access for visitors and participants from continental Europe very easy indeed. Once again it was a huge event with acres of vehicles, the list of which reads like a telephone directory! Unfortunately, the weekend was blighted somewhat by the vagaries of the British climate! In the run-up to the show Britain and much of western Europe had endured a lengthy spell of very hot and humid weather with temperatures averaging around 30C. Then, on Friday evening, it all came to an abrupt end when the weather broke accompanied by spectacular electrical storms which dumped copious amount rain on the country in a very short time! This inevitably made the ground somewhat soft in places and the effects of hundreds of wheels and tracks plus thousands of feet served to churn it up a bit! Nevertheless, the show went ahead with little or no changes to the planned program of events. As usual, I will focus on the many vehicles with a US connection...together with a few "extras"!

Please bear with me as it will take a while to upload the many photo files. Thank you!

Firstly, I mentioned in a previous thread how much trouble and expense the vehicle owners to bring their vehicles to the show. The following pics were taken yesterday evening as the show was winding down and people were loading up for their journeys home.

The "Fury" display.

As you know, the Brad Pitt movie "Fury" was filmed on location here in the UK. I was fortunate enough to visit the set as a guest of the forum's very own kammo-man...aka Owen Thornton, who was heavily involved with the production of the movie. The "Fury" display featured two of the vehicles used in the filming of the movie...both life-sized replicas with stretched British FV432 type running gear (?) beneath the skin! Firstly, the M4A3 "Fury" you see here is an exact replica of the real vehicle seen in the movie. However, this is of "fiber-glass" construction and, as you can see, it has external platforms added back and front, together with steering gear. These platforms held various camera rigs so that "on the move" shots could be filmed, something that was not possible with the actual Sherman.

Next...the mighty Tiger! A pretty damn good sheet-metal replica shell! Obviously, the priceless original Tiger "131" from the Tank Museum was not going to be subjected to really rough treatment, so this replica is a very good stand-in!
