Pep Posted July 10, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 10, 2014 Finally got this great set. I do not know much if anything about the bayonet but the scabbard is an early pattern M1910. It does still have a date of 1911 mfg'd by the Arsenal (R.I.A.) Funny thing is it came with a 1921 dated blade?
Pep Posted July 10, 2014 Author Share #2 Posted July 10, 2014 The hanger assy is of the earlier type with the thin hanger in a tube. This is the blade that came with it.
oldabewla Posted July 10, 2014 Share #3 Posted July 10, 2014 The thing of it is, they used and made this type M1910 scabbard right up to WWII. It was reissued with the bayonet some time after the war. Craig
RustyCanteen Posted July 10, 2014 Share #4 Posted July 10, 2014 That is a very nice early scabbard! The leather tip is one-piece (folded and sewn) on these earlier pre-WWI examples. The USMC actually used this pattern to make new covers before WWII (sans the hook tube).
Dr_rambow Posted July 10, 2014 Share #5 Posted July 10, 2014 Nice! Looks olive Drab too. I've been looking for a nice early scabbard to go with the rest of the first pattern 1910 equipment.
SKIPH Posted July 10, 2014 Share #6 Posted July 10, 2014 PEP- Nice find! I wouldn't be too concerned about the 1921 bayonet. Bayonets, and scabbards were constantly switched around all the time, ie inspections, upgrade to a cleaner scabbard, squad weapons cleaning sessions, and the length of service those bayonets actually served. You can always switch out an earlier dated bayonet at any time you want. Congrats on a good find. SKIP
