jeeplover Posted July 8, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 8, 2014 I bought this marine jacket when I purchased it there was no patch. when looking on the inside I seen a shadow where a 2nd marine division patch was so I added one. there are two names on the inside F.G. MILLER and one written in BYSTROM. any information about these two men would be nice. I also added the ribbon bar and medal

jeeplover Posted September 17, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted September 17, 2014 I know this post is old but was wondering if anyone found any information on the names in the uniform?
jeeplover Posted September 18, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted September 18, 2014 ok so no one can help or no one wants to help. I will not have this problem with my newest uniform I plan on buying. it is a tank destroyer uniform with his service record and several personal items. there are photos of him and there are photos of paris the eiffel tower. part of his record I read said he was in Normandy. I will post many pictures of his records pictures and the uniform. the only bad thing I can think of is the medals are gone so I will need to get those. I will post this in 3 weeks very excited. USdog Posted September 18, 2014 Share #6 Posted September 18, 2014 I think it was because the names are too common to get a correct ID

b_hinch Posted September 18, 2014 Share #8 Posted September 18, 2014 Congrats on your recent purchase - glad you are excited about it, sounds cool. Good job restoring the 2d Division coat. Just being nit-picky, but the EGAs are too recent and the ribbons should be centered above the pocket. Hope you find more info on the Marine! jeeplover Posted September 18, 2014 Author Share #12 Posted September 18, 2014 what about hat EGAs does the same rule with the rope apply?
Fly USMC Posted September 18, 2014 Share #13 Posted September 18, 2014 Depends on what hat (or as we marines like to say "Cover"). Here is a picture of the correct Collar emblems. Note that when worn, the anchors point inboard as in this picture. For an overseas cover you would use a left collar emblem (the one on the right side in this picture). what about hat EGAs does the same rule with the rope apply? Fly USMC Posted September 18, 2014 Share #14 Posted September 18, 2014 Here is a WWII era Barracks Cover. The Barracks cover is the larger "Hat" with the leather bill in front.
jeeplover Posted September 18, 2014 Author Share #15 Posted September 18, 2014 thank you very much. I checked ebay I can get a set for about 20 to 30 dollars. I love this site it has made me look at American uniforms in a different light.
uplandmod Posted September 18, 2014 Share #16 Posted September 18, 2014 Nice coat! Sorry I must have missed this thread early on. There are about four FG Miller, none were in the 2nd MarDiv. I Believe it belongs to Leonard R Bystrom. Since that name was crossed out it is clear that the Bystrom name was the last owner of the coat. He was the only Bystrom on the Rosters in the 2nd MarDiv. He left the service in 1945 as a corporal. His MOS was 050 Carpenter and he was in the 2nd Service Battalion, 2nd MarDiv Leonard R Bystrom Muster Date: Oct 1943 Rank: Private First Class Station: 2D Ser Bn, Ber Trs, 2D Mar Div, Fmf, In The Field Leonard R Bystrom Muster Date: Jan 1945 Rank: Corporal Station: 2D Ser Bn, Ser Trs, 2D Mar Div, Fmf, In The Field
uplandmod Posted September 18, 2014 Share #17 Posted September 18, 2014 As Stated above change out the Collar EGA to the correct WWII versions and center the ribbons. You should try to get his records from Lori at RedBird or Geoff at Golden Arrow. Seems like you got an excellent coat! Good Luck! Leonardo

louie Posted September 21, 2014 Share #22 Posted September 21, 2014 Jeep, don't forget, the anchors on the insignia are always in, not pointing out as on the picture. Just reverse them when u get the WW2 or Korean War ones.

jeeplover Posted September 26, 2014 Author Share #24 Posted September 26, 2014 I just bought these that is why I was asking about the pierced anchor
Stinger Gunner USMC Posted September 28, 2014 Share #25 Posted September 28, 2014 Nope, you got a good set of WWII era EGA's. some have a solid anchor and some are pierced. I believe it is just a different maker, or possibly due to being made earlier in the war.
