Dr_rambow Posted July 6, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 6, 2014 I have been thinking about parting with this uniform for a while now, so I took it out to look aat it recently and realized that what I thought were simply Cavalry service stripes are actually backed with red. It came to me with no insignia, so I tossed a set of cords and some collar insignia on it as is the usual with these, they have a black liner. I can't find a name anywhere on it, so it is hard to say for sure what the history is.
Dr_rambow Posted July 6, 2014 Author Share #2 Posted July 6, 2014 Also, you can see clearly where there were once stripes sewn; probably corporal.
BelligerentBlue Posted July 6, 2014 Share #3 Posted July 6, 2014 It appears that the bottom yellow one is. I'm not well versed in this area of USMC uniforms. But the one I do have has the same stripe.
Justin B. Posted July 6, 2014 Share #4 Posted July 6, 2014 A yellow stripe with red edging was regulation on Army uniforms in this period for someone who had served a USMC enlistment, it is covered in the Emerson Chevrons books. Justin B.

Pointedcuffs Posted September 14, 2014 Share #7 Posted September 14, 2014 The stripe does not look like a typical one. Is it cloth or a gilt lace material? Coastal Artillery continued to wear out the old stock of gilt lace wartime service stripes until 1910.
