I picked this one up from a friend of mine that scored it way too cheap at a local auction.

Nice to have the discharge paper (Note the unusual unit designation!) and very cool with the engineer cap cord around the patch, but the bullion one is a screamer! First time I have seen that one done in bullion with little snaps on the back to remove it from the uniform!

Very cool little group! I'm surprised at the quality of the US made bullion patch, as most of them aren't near the quality of German or Italian made. This would have been one flashy uniform!

Is it true that for security reasons those authorized to wear the patch were not allowed to do so until after the war was over?

Wow. One heck of a find. I live minutes from Oak Ridge, TN so we find a few good items from the Project...known as the Clinton Engineering Works to us. I picked up some Manhattan Project Stationary a few months ago and also a Chauffeur Badge.

My wish is to find a WAC uniform from the project. The only one I've seen is in the museum. I think there were only something like 22 WAC stationed there.

I saw one of those bullion patches go for big bucks not long ago.

Thanks for sharing the photos with us.

Well, it took 3 yrs but I finally found a WAC Manhattan District Uniform. With only approximately 400 WACs assigned to the Engineers at the various MD locations it was not an easy find. I'll try to post it on the woman's section soon. Still researching the lady.

The Bullion insignia is German made, it's higher quality of workmanship in comparison to U.S. produced insignia.

Here a link giving some additional information by B. Scott.
