collectsmedals Posted June 12, 2008 Share #1 Posted June 12, 2008 I finally got the last one I needed to complete a set of matchbooks from each of the battleships at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
JDK Posted June 13, 2008 Share #2 Posted June 13, 2008 Very Neat! I have a few matchbooks in my bar from different AAF headquarters. I put mine right nest to my vintage P-51 ashtray and period packs of Lucky Strikes. I always thought matchbooks were kind of a neat little item. collectsmedals Posted June 14, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted June 14, 2008 Thanks, it took me about two years to get all of them, but now I have a nice inexpensive display with some historical significance.
Homefrontguy Posted July 29, 2008 Share #5 Posted July 29, 2008 Great Idea to put this collection together and gald to see you have included the USS Utah. Jim
Plant#4 Posted July 29, 2008 Share #6 Posted July 29, 2008 Very nice! I have all the matcovers except the Utah and the Oklahoma, and never really thought about putting them together in that context. Now you need to start on the subs and tenders as well as the destroyers.....
collectsmedals Posted July 30, 2008 Author Share #7 Posted July 30, 2008 I do have several of the other ships that were at pearl harbor, I also have a U.S.S. Indianapolis that I am going to frame seperately with a picture of the ship. Subs are tough, small crews and I am not sure they even all issued things like matchbooks.
