Spathologist Posted June 11, 2008 Share #1 Posted June 11, 2008 I've been going through some primary documentation, and read a string of correspondence where civilian companies were asking for specifications for the Officer's Saber. What they were given were "Specifications Governing the Manufacture of Officer's Saber, Model of 1907", dated 27 Nov 1918. The saber described looks to be the same as the M1902. Throughout the correspondence, where the saber is referred to as anything but the Officer's Saber, it's called the M1907. Anyone know if/when the M1902 was redesignated the M1907? SARGE Posted June 11, 2008 Share #2 Posted June 11, 2008 Remember the various "experimental" swords that were tested between circa 1903-13. This was a very turbulent time for the Ordnance Boards and troops. The "Patton Sabre" and the "Officer's Sabre" were the winners in all this experimentation. I have never heard the so-called "Model 1902" officers sabre referred to as the M1907 either.
