Jarkeld_OA Posted June 21, 2014 Share #1 Posted June 21, 2014 Hi, my dad was given a Ka-Bar knife by an acquaintance and we would like to know how old it is.

Mandy Posted June 21, 2014 Share #3 Posted June 21, 2014 Hi Jarkled_OA, your Ka-Bar is late WWII production. Look on this link. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=499 Best regards. Tom
SKIPH Posted June 21, 2014 Share #4 Posted June 21, 2014 I believe this is a very late, 1990s production. First thing to look at are the thick black spacers, next the pommel is held on by a 1/2 pin (only see the pin on one side, not completely through. The finish on the pommel is a late one, heavy black coating. Based on the condition of the blade, the finish on a legit WW2 would have been totally gone from the pommel. Overall the knife blade was beaten to death. I could be wrong, but we have some very good MK2 folks who'll be checking in soon. SKIP
Catfishcraig Posted June 21, 2014 Share #5 Posted June 21, 2014 Thick pinned pummel and black spacer next to the guard gives it away. It's not a WWII production Kabar but a reproduction.

sactroop Posted June 22, 2014 Share #8 Posted June 22, 2014 WW2 KA-BAR's, in this case I'm referring to Union Cutlery made knives, came with both thick (3/8") and thin (1/4") pommels. The easiest way to separate them is that nobody's shown us a WW2 thick pommel knife that was pinned.
