Hello all,

here a nice sterling Combat Medical Badge as 2nd Award - its made by Meyer - but has no alpha numeric code on it.

The Meyer Shield, the word STERLING and the GI are raised.

Im i right when i told its made pre alpha numeric code was standart? So was it made right after the Korean War?

Best Regards

Stefan

That's an interesting one as it lacks the typical N.S. MEYER INC. NYC or N.S. MEYER INC. NEW YORK above the shield. In addition we see GI, this is something that is given to have been added in the 60s or something, forgot when, but if this badge was from the 60s even the late 50s it would typically have the double shield, the type seen on this actual badge along with another one with a 9 above and M seperated by a thin bar.

The 2nd Award of the CMB came out in early 1951, so it could concevably be an early made one, made before the new manufacturer codes came into use, but then there's that GI, for some reason I feel these came into use way before the 60s.

Here's the best listing available so far of N.S. Meyer hallmarks

On CIBs the clutch posts or pins are stated to be of differant lenghts for a given time period, pre-1960 are to be 1/4 inches long, while after 1960 the specs state they are to be 5/16 inches long, do not know if this applies to CMB too, but for the record, how long are yours marksman?
