SKIPH Posted June 13, 2014 Share #1 Posted June 13, 2014 Saw this on ebay, thought some of the new guys might want to check it out. Ebay item # 251556485170. It's an M6 scabbard , that was obviously aged, or left out side for a while. Don't be fooled! Look at the staples by the throat. It's a $10, IMA repro. Being passed off as an original WW2 M6. That is priced at $202 to start. This really disturbs me. Don't let the aging fool you. Study it gang, don't get tricked. SKIP
Persian Gulf Command Posted June 13, 2014 Share #2 Posted June 13, 2014 Skip, Thank you for posting your alert for other forum members. I saw this one as well and noticed your observations.
SKIPH Posted June 13, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted June 13, 2014 Just looking out for the "Gang". Lot of new guys still learning. Heck we're all still learning. SKIP
thorin6 Posted June 13, 2014 Share #4 Posted June 13, 2014 You'd think that anyone faking an M6 sheath would take one of the better ones. This one is so obviously a cheap reproduction that anyone bidding on it knows nothing about M6s and shouldn't be bidding in the first place. Reeder3 Posted June 13, 2014 Share #6 Posted June 13, 2014 These guys give collectors and dealers both a bad rep and turn future collectors off after getting screwed. Saved one guy this weekend from Texas' "favorite" WWII dealer was telling a guy his original wwii japanese NCO sword was a commenorative made in the 1950s and aluminum wasn't made until 1949. I called him out on the blatant lies, he was not happy of course but saved one from getting completely taken. Beating someone down on price is one thing, lying to a man's face to cheat him out of something is not acceptable.
sactroop Posted June 14, 2014 Share #7 Posted June 14, 2014 After it being screwed up so bad in the weather it's not worth the posted shipping price. The best thing about alert postings like these is my one sellers list gets larger without much investment on my part. Thanks Skip.
DRE66 Posted June 14, 2014 Share #8 Posted June 14, 2014 One of my diversions is to email sellers on Ebay to correct their descriptions of modern kabars being passed off as WWII. Incorrectly described Camillus MK2's etc. Generally, they thank me and correct their description. Some don't respond which is fine. As it stands on the bay, caveat emptor
DRE66 Posted June 14, 2014 Share #9 Posted June 14, 2014 Here's one that just popped up on the bay, you be the judge. Starting price is $349.00 for a "Rare" WWII 1219C2 Marine Ka-Bar Fighting Combat Knife w/Leather Sheath
thorin6 Posted June 15, 2014 Share #10 Posted June 15, 2014 It's not unusual to see the post-Vietnam Ka-bars offered as "original, WWII Ka-bars" on ebay Brand new, they go for less than $75; several years ago they were around $50.
SKIPH Posted June 15, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted June 15, 2014 I bought two in 1980, in the white boxes, for around $11 each. Traded them out for a Conetta M4, and a Camillus MK2 w/ MK2 scabbard. Gave the MK2 to my brother after he graduated from jump school, and was assigned to the 82nd ABN. Still have the Conetta. SKIP
bayonetman Posted June 15, 2014 Share #12 Posted June 15, 2014 I also have one of these later Ka-Bar USMC knives that actually saw Marine service as a private purchase PX knife. Not that it really means anything in the long run, but I did get a letter from him stating the circumstances of its purchase and his use of it. Some of the ads on eBay are simply what the seller was told by someone and are not really an attempt to defraud, simply a misinformed seller. What really annoys me is the seller who says it was his and he carried it in Vietnam or whatever when it obviously is not - the classic example is the Camillus version marked US over CAMILLUS which was not produced until 1974. One seller awhile back was selling a Jet Pilot Knife with the later Camillus commercial logo who claimed he used it in Nam and now is ill from Agent Orange and has to sell his prized possessions to pay medical bills. He may well be a vet and may be ill, but the knife certainly was not used as described.
sactroop Posted June 23, 2014 Share #13 Posted June 23, 2014 I see where the M6 in the OP sold for $207.
SKIPH Posted June 23, 2014 Author Share #14 Posted June 23, 2014 I honestly thought no one would buy that thing. What a waste of $207. Hopefully the newer folks on this site get an eyeopener. That's a hard lesson for someone. SKIP
Sabrejet Posted June 23, 2014 Share #15 Posted June 23, 2014 The scabbard referred to in the IP.
SKIPH Posted June 23, 2014 Author Share #16 Posted June 23, 2014 Sabrejet- Thanks for posting this picture. This will temp more folks to buy $10, M6s from "IMA", and age them outdoors, to sell at ridiculous prices. It never ends. SKIP
