February 12, 1968. That's Sergeant Parkinson's team in front of our tent at LZ Betty making a commo check prior to going on my second patrol. I'm on the right, leaning over from my 90 pound gear. The two men on the left are indigenous Montagnards who served as our front and rear scouts.

Robert C. Ankony joined the army in October 1965 at the age of seventeen. After serving as a parachute rigger in Europe with the Eighth Infantry Division (Mechanized) and with Company D, Seventeenth Infantry (LRP) in V Corps, he transferred to the First Air Cavalry Division in Vietnam, where he was made a sergeant and a team leader with Company E, Fifty-second Infantry (LRP), redesignated Company H, Seventy-fifth Infantry (Ranger).

I just stumbled across this amazing thread. Please pin this! This is an amazing collection of pictures showing a few of the endless combos of equipment used by SF men in 'nam. What a great resource for people to reference in the Uniforms section...

Following are some pictures of members of Company O 75th Infantry taken from the 3rd Brigade 82nd Airborne Division's Vietnam unit history. First up is company commander Capt. Patrick Downing wearing jungle fatigues in the field with one of his men.

Picture from the previous article. Note both men appear to be wearing Long Range Patrol Scrolls rather than the red and black Airborne Ranger scrolls worn by many companies.

Here's a photo of Team 16 of Company O 75th Infantry of the 3rd Brigade 82nd Airborne Division - 1969. This was probably taken at Phu Loi, the 3rd Brigade's base camp, prior to a mission.

Here's another photo provided by a veteran of Company O 75th Infantry showing members wearing their jungle fatigues during an awards ceremony. The veteran confirmed to me the soldiers of Company O just wore a Long Range Patrol scroll over their 82nd AIrborne SSI but he didn't have any original scrolls or any other pictures showing them up close.

Here's a better copy of this image provided by the photographer who took it - Bob Schoenecker of the 3rd Brigade 82nd Airborne Division's 45th Public Information Detachment.

LRRP's of the 3rd Brigade 82nd Airborne Division at Firebase Birmingham in the summer of 1968. This would have been before the unit was designated as the 78th Infantry Detachment in December 1968.
