That's Sergeant Parkinson's team in front of our tent at LZ Betty making a commo check prior to going on my second patrol. I'm on the right, leaning over from my 90 pound gear. The two men on the left are indigenous Montagnards who served as our front and rear scouts. Robert C. Ankony joined the army in October 1965 at the age of seventeen. After serving as a parachute rigger in Europe with the Eighth Infantry Division (Mechanized) and with Company D, Seventeenth Infantry (LRP) in V Corps, he transferred to the First Air Cavalry Division in Vietnam, where he was made a sergeant and a team leader with Company E, Fifty-second Infantry (LRP), redesignated Company H, Seventy-fifth Infantry (Ranger). The veteran confirmed to me the soldiers of Company O just wore a Long Range Patrol scroll over their 82nd AIrborne SSI but he didn't have any original scrolls or any other pictures showing them up close.
