How often were missions conducted where black pajamas were worn? I am thinking of making up a display of a US troop wearing the black pajamas, but I have seen very few photos of them actually being worn on a mission.

Thats a very good question.

Here is some Marine Recon riflemen doing the same.

CISO did manufacture Black pajamas. That I know.

I would think that it depended on the environment. MACV-SOG Roadrunner and RT teams did dress as or similar to the enemy (NVA-with od uniforms and pith helmets etc), but they were operating across the fence where they would not unexpectedly encounter friendly units or aircraft.

LRPs etc could be spotted by friendly aircraft. I imagine it wouldn't be that healthy to be spotted by a gunship dressed as the enemy.

I would guess that this type of dressing up by soldiers other than SOG etc was for training or playing around for the camera.

This is just my two cents worth. Everybody else feel free to speak up on the topic.

A couple of nice color group shots.
I am unsure of the units.

I call these two, there's always someone that doesnt get the dress code.
"Oh was this mission is in tigers, I thought you said ERDL"

Just an observation. On both of the photos shown in this thread with US troops wearing black pajamas, there is very little field gear. Not too much that makes you think that they are going out or just coming in from a patrol.

Bonjour,

Thanks guys to share your time and show us these nice pics§

Did you notice that:

-some wear subdued 101st SSI. Now it's time for questions: locally made, ex-color subdued at individual level, US made subdued in flat edge or early merrow edge?

-the M34 WP has been camouflageblack by blak tape ;

-the strange tiger stripes cap

Cheers

Valery

Valery,

in this pic it looks to be subude with shoe polish or face camo.
See how the Ranger tab still has some red in it?
What do you think?

I'm sure your right. My own assesment is that these SSI are subdued by the soldiers themselves. I've seen only few examples of subdued VN worn SSI. These examples were all locally made. I dont't think that sudued cut edge nor merrow 've been sent in VN.

Very interesting thread thumbsup.gif
