militaryoutfitter Posted May 4, 2014 Share #1 Posted May 4, 2014 This incredibly heavy and double thickness hat badge came in a lot of very odd WWII insignia. I have had no luck finding this anywhere, any help would be appreciated! No maker mark, measures almost 2.75 inches across. Standard screwpost with 2 stabilizer pins...eagle is applied to give this a deep effect. Lovely, well made...but what the heck is it?

militaryoutfitter Posted May 4, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted May 4, 2014 I had thought of that, but this badge bears no resemblance to USMS badges at all. At least none I can find online or in reference books. Is it a peculiar branch of the USMS or USMM?
sigsaye Posted May 4, 2014 Share #5 Posted May 4, 2014 It could belong to a civilian shipping company, a civilian hatch club, maybe from some sort of civilian "Sweet Hart hat, any number of things. Regardless, it's not US Navy. Looks really nice, but not Navy. I don't know anything about USMS, ATS, or any of the other Maritime non Navy/ Coast Guard stuff. But definitely not Navy or Coast Guard. Wharfmaster Posted May 4, 2014 Share #6 Posted May 4, 2014 I have one like it and assumed it was Merchant Marine. Perhaps a shipping company. Yours is only the second one I have seen. Nice heavy badge. W
