Hi as a collector of mainly British Military cap-badges, I acquire cloth badges from British / commonwealth / European and American Forces from time to time and with your help I would wish to find out about these items I have acquired along the way! I have no way of finding out what I have here or details to the what the Patches represent? this appears the best place to find out what I have? but appreciate that I am British/Irish and no inkling to American Forces rank structure nor how the regimental system you have works (you are a lot bigger than us!) with that in mind I trust you,ll not get too upset if I ask dumb questions from time to time what you list here I will copy and paste to my photos in my folder so I will have a record just looking through the recent posts i hope you will at least find something off interest along the way appreciate all the help in advance and hope I can load these pictures ! cheers billy O/K can only load one at a time! cheers

These are USAF era?

early-sh 1970s up till the recent present, these were replaced with differant color rank patches when the USAF got their new Camouflage uniforms, the Airman Battle Dress Uniform.

The USAF enlisted rank look like they are from the 70's, 80's era shirt or female chevrons, on the left are:

- E8 Senior Master Sergeant (1959 to 1991)

- E6 Technical Sergeant (basic design has not changed)

- E4 Sergeant (1976 to 1991) Airman 1st Class (1952 to 1976) Senior Airman (1991 to present) and before 1952 Sergeant

The USAF enlisted rank on the right are from 1976 to 1991. The Air Force separated the Airman (chevrons had blue stars) and NCO's (chevrons had white stars):

- E4 Senior Airman (jacket chevron)

- E4 Senior Airman (shirt or female chevron)

- E3 Airman 1st Class (shirt or female chevron)

- E2 Airman (shirt or female chevron)

The Airman / Non Commissioned Officer chevrons started 6/1/1976 and ended 3/19/1991 and the Air Force went back to the white stars only.

Bottom right is German "Marine Fighter Sqn. 1 )

The Lockheed patch is for their "Skunk Works".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skunk_Works

Skunk Works is an official alias for Lockheed Martin’s Advanced Development Programs (ADP), formerly called Lockheed Advanced Development Projects. Skunk Works is responsible for a number of famous aircraft designs, including the U-2, the SR-71 Blackbird, the F-117 Nighthawk, and the F-22 Raptor. Currently its main project is the F-35 Lightning II, which will be used in the air forces of several countries.

These enlisted ABU chevrons are from 2007 to present, I believe there is only one size no female sizes.

All the desert colored Chevrons above are from 1991 to 2011.

The red patch with the shamrock is the US Fourth Army.

According to the Richard Smith book on WW2 patches, "The patch worn by the Fourth Army was approved for wear on January 26th, 1927 even though the Army wasn't actually activated until August of 1932. The colors red & white represent the distinguishing flags for field armies and the four leaf clover suggest the unit number."

It is worn with the stem down like this:
